I Had No Idea

When I was 8 years old, I was walking out of my bedroom, passing my mother’s room down the hall. I could see the lights on in the kitchen. I heard a very strong man’s voice coming from her room, and he said, “Evan, I love you”. I stopped, cold, scared and frozen. I turned, and nobody was there. In a very short time, it was dismissed as my imagination. It may have been but I can still remember everything from that moment in time.
I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. My mom and dad divorced when I was 7 years old. They both were very hard-working and loving parents. Things changed very quickly when my dad thought I was the product of an affair. I always had a sense he didn’t like me very much. My mother turned to alcohol and other men. As I grew older, I started drinking a lot and wasn’t thinking about much else.
Over the years, I was never interested in God or church. When I had to go to make someone else happy, I would, but I hated every second of it. I was in my late 30’s when I had all I could take. I was sitting on a milk crate. I no longer wanted to be around the people or the place I was in. I heard the same voice I heard as a child. It said get up and move. I did not have a clue what I was going to do or where I was going to go. I was running down the streets of San Diego with no place to go and having no idea what I was doing. I only stopped because I was unable to run anymore. I looked up and the sign in front of me said, San Diego Rescue Mission. I checked in and for the next year, I got to meet the man who had been watching me my whole life.
I am 53 now and I’ve learned a few things. I can and do finally trust someone. Second, I have always been running to Jesus. I had no idea. I am so grateful for my relationship with God and that I was able to share my experience with like-minded people at A Ray of Hope.
I arrived here 2 1/2 months ago when I needed a renewing of hope.
Now I am off again; I just accepted a position as Executive Chef working for a Cruise Line. I hope to start a bible study on the ship.
Blessings, Evan

The post “I Had No Idea” reflects a powerful moment of realization about life experiences and how unexpected situations can change the way we see things. It highlights growth that often comes from surprise and reflection rather than planning. While I was going through a difficult calculus semester, I once felt completely lost with deadlines and pressure, so I used Affordable Calculus Class Help Service to manage my workload and stay consistent with studies. That experience made me understand that clarity often comes after confusion, both in learning and in life.
