A Testimony of Hope

My name is Zach, and I have been blessed to call A Ray of Hope home since April 25, 2025.  Before this, my life felt like a storm I could not escape. For years, severe anxiety and depression clouded my everyday. I turned to isolation and marijuana.  At one point, I was smoking an ounce/week just to numb my pain. But even this stopped working.  I lost my job, my family and my will to live. In desperation, I visited the ER eight times in 18 months. I was trapped in a cycle of panic and despair.  By the time I moved here, I had given up.  Two weeks prior, I’d made plans to end my life.

But God had other plans.

One night, through sobbing tears, I begged him to end my suffering. Instead, he reminded me of my dogs and of their unconditional love, which is a mirror of his love for us.  My dogs needed me as much as I needed them.  That glimmer of purpose led me to call 911. A sheriff’s deputy listened to me for over an hour and then connected me with the Crisis Assessment Team, who suggested A Ray of Hope.  At first, I resisted. The last thing I wanted was to live with others!  But after praying and talking with my therapist, God softened my heart. I took a leap of faith.

And what a leap it’s been!

After just two days, my roommate noticed a significant change. I was smiling, talking and engaging with life again.  He became a brother in Christ, guiding me towards hope.  Now, a month later, I am clean, renewed and rediscovering my confidence that I thought was gone forever.  More importantly, I am surrendering my life into God’s hands, where true healing begins.

To anyone feeling trapped, Hold On!  God’s light reaches even the darkest places. A Ray of Hope was his answer for me, and it might be yours too!

May God’s grace forever light your way!
