The last 2 years of my life have been topsy-turvy.
I lost two brothers in as many years, and the toll it took on my mental health was intangible. Being new to Montana (moved here for work) and having to fly home to NY to lay my relatives to rest, definitely scattered my priorities and my peace of mind.
This last year, I decided to put myself into a treatment center for my alcohol use. They recommended I choose a safe and sober place to go, instead of going back to NY. Since that time, I’ve made a bunch of progress. This is due to the fact, I decided to stay with A Ray of Hope during the early part of my recovery.
To be honest, the key to this house lies right in the name, HOPE. Though I choose a different virtue to describe what I’ve found in this healing and nurturing environment, KINDNESS. The type of kindness that gives me faith in humanity. The type of kindness that surpasses ALL human differences and lends itself to the lives of perfect strangers. The positivity I feel here on a daily basis is a gift from the Creator, and I am so grateful, because I feel like I’m becoming a better man because of that light.
